In short: Three days, one festival site and thousands of guests: at Donauinselfest 2025, from 20 to 22 June, we were on the Danube Island for several clients, including Allwyn and Zyn. At Allwyn we ran our AI Magic Mirror in its Magic Mirror X version, alongside classic photo booths. The highlight: thanks to FaceSwap, guests saw themselves as racing drivers within seconds.

Three days of Donauinselfest, right in the middle of the festival

Donauinselfest is Vienna's big open-air festival: stages, food stalls and brand areas spread across the Danube Island, admission is free and the crowd is wonderfully mixed – families with kids as well as groups of friends moving from stage to stage.

For brands, that means you need a reason for people to stop. That is exactly why we were there. Instead of handing out flyers, our clients offered their guests an experience they could take home and share.

At Allwyn: becoming a racing driver with FaceSwap

This year's standout was the AI Magic Mirror X with FaceSwap at Allwyn. The idea is simple: guests step in front of the mirror, take a photo – and the AI places their face into a prepared racing driver scene. A few seconds later they see themselves in a racing suit, ready for the track.

The scene matched the motorsport feel on site perfectly, where a Formula 1 show car was also on display. Anyone who had just stood in front of it naturally wanted to see what they would look like as a driver. The kids in particular could hardly be pulled away from the mirror, and long queues of young festival guests formed at Allwyn's mint-green stand throughout the day.

FaceSwap works because the AI detects every face individually and places it cleanly into the scene. We agree on the scene with the client in advance so it fits the campaign and the brand – whether racing driver, superhero or a completely custom design.

How a session at the AI Magic Mirror X works

The flow is designed so that nobody needs instructions – essential at a festival where new guests keep arriving:

  • Touch to start: guests tap the mirror and an animation guides them through the shot.
  • Pose and countdown: a quick look into the camera and the mirror takes the picture.
  • The AI does its work: after about 20 to 30 seconds the racing driver image is ready.
  • Take it home and share it: the print comes straight out of the printer next to the mirror, and the image is also available digitally via QR code.

With its large mirror surface, the Magic Mirror X also captures small groups in full – parents with children, friends, whole families.

Classic photo booths for Zyn and other clients

Alongside the mirror, we ran classic photo booths on our clients' brand areas, including Zyn. A Fotobox Classic photo booth works so well at a festival because it delivers a result in seconds: take a photo, get the print, move on to the next stage.

With a print layout in the brand's design, every picture goes home as a small keepsake – and shows up again later on Instagram and in photo albums.

What makes a festival different from a corporate party

An activation on the Danube Island is a different job from an evening in a banquet hall. Three things matter most:

  • A protected spot: technology doesn't mix well with direct sun or rain. Our devices stood in a tent or under a roof, keeping the display readable and the hardware safe.
  • Our own internet: AI images are processed online. On a festival site with thousands of phones, Wi-Fi is rarely reliable, so we bring our own mobile internet.
  • Throughput: at a festival, guests don't arrive one by one but in waves. A self-explanatory flow and short waiting times between photo and result keep the queue moving.

What we take away from Donauinselfest

An AI scene works best when it fits the place. The racing driver in the mirror did exactly that: guests didn't just take a photo, they put themselves into the scene all around them. And classic photo booths prove at every festival that a printed picture in your hand is still one of the strongest reasons to stop at a brand stand.

FAQ: photo booths and the AI Magic Mirror at festivals

What is FaceSwap on the AI Magic Mirror?

The AI detects the guest's face and places it into a prepared scene – at Donauinselfest it was a racing driver. The finished image is available printed and digitally.

Can we choose the scene ourselves?

Yes. We agree on the scene with you in advance and send preview images before it goes live.

Does the mirror work outdoors?

Yes, with a covered, level spot – such as a tent or pavilion – and a standard power socket. We bring our own internet.

How long does an AI image take?

About 20 to 30 seconds from photo to finished image.

Can the print layout match our brand design?

Yes. We add logo, colours and claim to the print layout so every picture carries your brand.
