Renting a photo booth for a ball in Vienna – what you get
According to the Vienna Tourist Board, the city hosts more than 450 balls every year. The ball season traditionally opens on 11 November at 11:11 am and peaks in January and February – plus the Maturabälle, the Austrian graduation balls or proms, which are spread across the whole school year. We supply the photo station for the ball night: the Photobooth Classic with instant printing, the Magic Mirror X in mirror format, or the Magic Mirror Retro in its gold frame, which does not look like technology next to a tailcoat and an evening gown. Photo booth, selfie station or photo kiosk – whatever you call it, we bring it, set it up and take it away again.
Why a ball is different
At a ball your guests are in evening dress, the evening runs to a schedule, and the party usually takes place in a palais, a ballroom or the vaulted hall of a historic building. Three things matter more than usual:
- The printed picture. Someone standing there in a long gown or a tailcoat wants the photo in hand, not just on a phone. Every photo strip prints twice – one for the guest, one for the committee's guest book.
- The look of the station. We design the print layout, start screen and backdrop in the look of your ball, with the committee's logo and the date if you want.
- The space in the hall. The Photobooth Classic needs about two by two metres and a standard socket, and so does the Magic Mirror. The mirror does need 212 cm of ceiling height though – in a low vaulted hall that is exactly what decides it.
The photo strip as a ball favour
Ball favours – the Damenspende – are part of the evening in Vienna. A printed photo strip in the ball's layout is the version nobody leaves behind: it takes no storage space, it is different for every guest, and it still carries the organiser's name. With the Photobooth Classic, up to 800 photo strips in one evening are possible.
Proms, school balls and club balls
A Maturaball – the Austrian prom – works differently from Vienna's grand balls: more guests at the station in less time, the budget comes from the student committee, and the theme changes every year. The same goes for school balls, graduation balls and dancing-school balls. At a club ball, a fire brigade ball or a guild ball it is the association's logo that matters most. All of them call for devices with high throughput – the Photobooth Classic or, if it should be the highlight of the night, the Photo Mosaic Wall, whose guest photos grow into one large picture over the evening.
How the evening runs
We deliver to the venue at the agreed time and set up in about 30 minutes – before the opening, not during it. The station runs for up to twelve hours, so it is still going after the midnight performance. Running time does not change the price – we charge per event day, not per hour. A ball night that runs past midnight is still the same event day; only if your event continues the following day is a second event day added. We collect everything again after the ball, however late that is. In Vienna, delivery, setup and takedown are included in the price; outside Vienna there is a travel fee, stated transparently in the quote – we work across Austria. Common questions
How early should we ask about a photo booth for our ball?
For the Vienna ball season in January and February it pays to ask early, because many balls fall on the same weekends. Four to eight weeks ahead is typical, and short notice often still works – just ask and we will tell you straight away whether your date is free.
What does the price for a photo booth at a ball depend on?
Four things shape the quote: which device you choose, whether one of us is there to look after it, how much branding and design you want, and where the venue is.
What does not affect the price is the running time – we charge per event day, not per hour. In Vienna, delivery, setup and takedown are included; outside Vienna there is a travel fee, stated transparently in the quote. A print layout in the look of your ball needs about a week's lead time. You get a quote with every item listed within 24 hours – no obligation, no deposit.
Does it cost more if the photo booth runs longer?
No. The price is per event day, not per hour. Whether the station only runs during the reception or right through to the end of the ball night makes no difference to the quote – up to twelve hours on the event day are possible. Only if your event continues the following day is a second event day added. The only thing booked by the hour is the on-site attendant, from four to ten hours.
How much space does the photo station need in the ballroom?
The Photobooth Classic needs about two by two metres, and so does the Magic Mirror. The 360° Headspinner needs four by four metres; the 360° Ground Spinner about two by two metres plus clearance for the rotating camera arm.
Does a photo booth fit into a vaulted hall?
Yes. The Photobooth Classic, the Magic Mirror and the 360° Ground Spinner all work with normal ceiling height. Only the 360° Headspinner needs four metres – in a low vault the Ground Spinner is the better choice.
What power supply do you need?
One standard 230 V socket is enough for any of our devices. No three-phase power, no arrangements with the building's technician. We bring our own internet; the venue's Wi-Fi is a backup at most.
Can we have the print layout in the look of our ball?
Yes. We design the print layout, start screen and frame in your look, with the committee's logo, the name of the ball and the date if you want. Please allow about a week for that.
How many photo strips can we get through in one evening?
With the Photobooth Classic, up to 800 photo strips in 5 × 15 cm format are possible, or 400 postcard-size prints. Every shot prints twice – one for the guest, one for the guest book.
Does a photo strip work as a ball favour?
It works very well. The strip carries the ball's layout and name, it is different for every guest, and it does not have to be ordered and stored in advance. That makes it a replacement for, or an addition to, the classic Damenspende.
Is someone from your team there during the ball?
On request, yes. An on-site attendant can be booked for four to ten hours – someone from us stays at the device, briefs your guests and keeps things running. With some devices, such as the 360° Headspinner, the attendant is always included.
How does the committee get the digital photos?
After the ball you get a gallery with every shot. By default the data stays stored for one month, less by arrangement. The images are never used to train AI models.
Do you travel to balls outside Vienna?
Yes, we work across Austria. In Vienna, delivery, setup and takedown are included in the price; outside Vienna there is a travel fee, stated transparently in the quote.
