WKW Future Evening 2024: The AI Magic Mirror at the Vienna Chamber of Commerce
On 21 November 2024, the Vienna Chamber of Commerce (Wirtschaftskammer Wien) hosted its Future Evening. The name already says what the evening was about: what comes next. We were there with a device that is itself a piece of that future – the AI Magic Mirror. Instead of an ordinary souvenir photo, guests took home a picture that artificial intelligence created from their portrait in just a few seconds.
A Future Evening needs a photo from the future
Artificial intelligence gets talked about a lot – on stages, in presentations, in industry articles. It becomes far more interesting when you can try it yourself. That is the idea behind an AI Mirror Photo Booth at an evening like this: guests don't need to know anything about technology, install an app or be given instructions. They step in front of the mirror, tap an effect and moments later see what AI makes of their photo.
That makes an abstract topic tangible. Someone who was just discussing new technologies is holding an example of it half a minute later – printed, and on their own phone as well.
How the AI Magic Mirror works
The AI Magic Mirror is our mirror photo booth with artificial intelligence. The process is deliberately simple:
- Choose an effect: On the touchscreen, guests pick from the effects we set up for the event in advance.
- Strike a pose: Countdown, flash – the shot itself takes only seconds.
- Get the result: After 20 to 30 seconds the AI image is ready, comes out of the printer and can be sent to the phone via QR code or email.
We agree on the available effects with the organiser before every event. Options include a face swap into a prepared scene, a comic or collectible-figure version of your own portrait, or a glimpse a few decades ahead. At an evening with “future” in its title, motifs like these are a natural fit.
Why an AI photo booth works at corporate and institutional events
At receptions, networking evenings and institutional events, guests are often there to talk rather than to party. A classic photo booth can get overlooked in that setting. An AI Mirror Photo Booth has a different effect:
- It starts conversations. Results get passed around, compared and commented on – an easy icebreaker, even between guests who haven't met yet.
- It needs no explanation. On-screen animations guide guests through the session, so the barrier to joining in is low.
- It carries the host's brand. We design the print layout and start screen in the organiser's look. Every picture a guest takes home is a reminder of the evening and its host.
- It matches the content. When an event is about innovation, a device that demonstrates innovation is more than decoration.

Behind the scenes: effortless setup
For the organiser, a device like this should above all be easy. We deliver the mirror at the agreed time, set it up, test every effect and collect it after the event. On site we need a standard power socket and roughly two by two metres of space, including room for guests to move.
One point matters for all AI devices: generating the images requires an internet connection. That's why we bring our own mobile internet, so the mirror doesn't depend on the venue's Wi-Fi. In Vienna, delivery, setup and teardown are included.
The future to take home
What remains after an evening like this is not just the conversations but also a picture. Guests take their AI image home as a print and can also save and share it digitally. After the event, the organiser receives a gallery with all the shots.
