A robot on UN grounds

The Vienna International Centre – known to the Viennese as UNO City – is not your average event venue. To get in, you pass a security checkpoint, wear a badge and walk on international territory. This is exactly where UNIDO, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, held its Bridge for Cities 2026 forum on 28 and 29 October 2026. This year's theme: "AI & Green Innovation: Powering a Sustainable Future". And rolling right through the middle of it: LUNA, our AI photo booth robot.

Why a photo booth on wheels?

Bridge for Cities is a conference: panels, networking breaks, delegations from cities around the globe. A photo booth parked in a corner would have had a hard time here. Guests are deep in conversation, moving between hall and foyer, and nobody feels like queueing. LUNA turns that around: she comes to the guests. Our attendant Vanessa drove her by remote control through the foyer, over to standing tables and delegation groups – on both days from 9:00 to 14:30. A robot weaving its way between diplomats and urban planners needs no invitation. People come over by themselves, usually with their phone already in hand. For anyone planning a similar conference: an attendant is always part of the LUNA package. The robot never drives unsupervised, and that same person welcomes guests, gathers groups and keeps the printer stocked.

The AI scene: Green AI City

To match the forum's theme we developed a dedicated AI scene in advance. Every photo LUNA takes is re-rendered right on the device: suddenly the guests are standing in the rooftop garden of a green city of the future – high-rises covered in plants, solar panels, wind turbines, drones, sky trains and waterways running between the buildings. One person in the group holds a small glowing hologram of the city on the palm of their hand. The faces stay exactly as captured. That is the real craft in AI imagery, and we refined the scene over several versions until it worked reliably for groups and changing light alike.

The print layout sits on top: the UNIDO 60th anniversary logo on the left, the Bridge for Cities logo on the right. The AI image itself deliberately contains no text and no logo; the branding is added as an overlay in the layout. That way it always sits in the same place – whatever the AI generates in the background.

Printed in seconds, digital for the phone

The flow at the device is kept short on purpose: tap the screen, countdown, photo. The AI does its work, and a few seconds later the 10 × 15 cm print comes out of the printer that travels with LUNA. Anyone who prefers the picture on their phone scans the QR code or has it sent by e-mail. At international conferences this is the point that matters: delegates take the image home – printed in their folder, digital in their story.

Logistics on UN grounds

A job at the VIC needs more lead time than a company party in a restaurant. Access list, badges at the gate, delivery through the designated entrance – all of it was coordinated with the UNIDO team weeks in advance. LUNA herself keeps things simple: she runs purely on battery, needs no fixed footprint and no cable across the foyer, just a level floor and a socket to charge the spare battery. We bring our own internet for the AI processing. She was set up in about 30 minutes – long before the first delegates arrived in the foyer.

What we take away

Conferences live on conversations. A photo station that joins those conversations and produces an image that fits the event's theme is more than a gimmick: it gives guests something to hold that carries the forum's message further. For us, Bridge for Cities was also a field test of how well a custom-built AI scene holds up under conference conditions – lots of groups, changing light, short breaks. The result: two days without queues and a stack of prints that did not end up in the bin.

LUNA for your event

The AI photo booth robot is part of our AI Line and is booked mainly for corporate events, trade fairs and conferences – anywhere guests are spread out and nobody should have to cross the room to reach a device. We develop the AI scene in advance to match your theme, and you see sample images before the event. Prefer it classic? LUNA is also available without AI as the photo booth robot. In Vienna, delivery, setup and dismantling are included, and we operate throughout Austria. Just send us the date, venue and occasion – you will receive a quote within 24 hours.
