Booked at short notice: the 360° Ground Spinner for Sarti Spritz at Volksgarten Vienna
Most events we plan weeks ahead: venue visited, layout agreed, load-in window fixed. This one went differently. The request from Campari – for the Sarti Spritz brand at Volksgarten in Vienna – came at short notice, and the 360° Ground Spinner still stood there on time, ran all evening and sent guests home with videos that were in their stories the same night.
A request with no lead time
Short-notice requests are normal in the event business. A programme item falls through, a budget gets released, someone realises three days out that the evening could use one more highlight. The honest answer is not always yes – it depends on whether the device is free, whether someone can operate it and whether the venue allows it.
In this case everything lined up. Late May, Volksgarten, Sarti Spritz as the brand of the night: device available, operator assigned, delivery within Vienna. There was little time between confirmation and load-in, but that is exactly what this device is built for.
Why the Ground Spinner works at short notice
Not every device of ours can be booked spontaneously. A branded print layout needs lead time, an AI effect wants testing in advance, and the Spinner's big brother – the 360° Headspinner – needs four metres of ceiling height and up to two hours to build.
The 360° Ground Spinner is the simpler option. An illuminated platform, a rotating camera arm, the sharing station next to it. The device needs roughly two by two metres of floor space, a standard domestic socket and a level, stable surface. No special ceiling height, no three-phase power, no custom construction.
And above all: nothing gets printed. The Ground Spinner is a pure video device. That removes the part that normally eats the most lead time – designing a layout, getting it approved, ordering paper and ribbons to match the format. What remains is a device you set down, switch on and let run.
What the venue dictates
A club is not an empty hall. Floor space is limited, walkways are tight, and anything in the way disrupts the evening. The Ground Spinner suits that well: the platform measures at least a metre across, overall height is around 180 centimetres, and the step up is about 20 centimetres. The rotating camera arm needs clearance around it, nothing more.
One point has to be settled in advance at any venue: the device weighs around 80 kilograms. If the space is not on ground level, we need a lift – stairs are not an option. That is the one question that has to be asked even on the shortest notice, before we say yes.
We always bring our own internet. In a full club, mobile coverage is not a reliable service, and without a connection there is no sharing.
Slow motion is half of it – sharing is the other half
Up to five people step onto the platform together, the camera travels once around them, and what comes out is the effect you know from award shows: glasses, hair and confetti hanging in the air for a moment. One take lasts a few seconds. In an hour we manage around 30 videos.
The sharing station beside it matters just as much. The finished video is ready there seconds later and goes straight to the phone by QR code or AirDrop. For a brand activation that is the decisive step: a video sitting on our machine is no use to anyone. One that gets shared the same evening is.
An operator is not optional here
With most of our devices an on-site attendant is an add-on you can book or skip. With the 360° Ground Spinner it is always included, for a practical reason: someone has to start each take, brief the guests and make sure the platform does not get overloaded.
On a short-notice booking that is an advantage, not a cost item. The client does not have to pull someone off their own team to learn an unfamiliar device. We arrive, build, operate, pack up.
What a short-notice booking really needs
What we take away from this evening is that short notice does not have to mean hectic. It takes three things: a device that works without custom fabrication, a venue whose conditions can be settled in five minutes, and someone to run it.
When those three line up, the difference between six weeks and six days of lead time is invisible in the result. It only becomes visible where customisation comes in – a branded video overlay, a custom start screen, matched colours. For that we like to plan a little more time.
